King 810 Rules Over New Orleans' Southport Hall
King 810 headlined an electrifying show in New Orleans with nu-metal openers Project Ascension, Extortionist, and The Last Ten Seconds of Life. The crowd went wild with mosh pits and sing-alongs, especially during King 810's powerful performance.
Flint, Michigan titans King 810 recently graced the city of New Orleans and everybody was better off for it.
The nu metal band, along with deathcore bands Extortionist and The Last Ten Seconds of Life and local band Project Ascension, played for a decently sized crowd on Thursday, Aug. 22, at Southport Music Hall.
Project Ascension was first up, a band that easily fit into the rest of the touring lineup due to their nu-metal musical influences. At least a third of the crowd sported their merch and made sure everybody knew that they were there for the band by singing along at the top of their lungs.
The New Orleans based band was definitely all about business, but spared some time for a few jokes before the end of their set. One such joke was of them saying how they hadn't met any of the members of King 810 due to their shyness, but thanked them for allowing them to open.
Next up was Extortionist, which had quite a few fans in the crowd as well. Their music kicked off a series of mosh pits throughout the night, much to the delight of frontman Ben Hoagland.
Right after them was The Last Ten Seconds of Life, which for the New Orleans crowd seemed to be a slightly unfamiliar band, but as soon as the group's heavy riffs began, off people went to mosh once again.
Watching Tyler Beam at times was almost dizzying. His stomps back and forth across the stage throughout the whole set would have put a seasoned general to shame. That, coupled with his effortless screams, made for the most delicious final appetizer before the main course that was King 810...and main course they were.
Opening with Hurry Hurry Ahura Mazda from their latest release, Under The Black Rainbow, one by one, members of King 810 slowly made their way to the stage, almost as if stalking some nearby prey.
Frontman David Gunn didn't join the stage until a good portion of the song was completed, a bold move that paid off as the band launched into one of their most popular songs, Alpha & Omega right after the former one ended.
You can probably afford to join the stage late when you have an entire crowd of fans screaming, "I’m the messiah the gnashing of teeth/No one meets death until they see me/I am the Alpha and the Omega".
The energy remained high the entire time, even during a portion of the set that got ballad and bluesy with Me & Maxine and Wolves Run Together.
Soon enough, the Michigan band ended their performance with high spirited Killem All and left Cajun country sizzling and wondering just when they'd be back down South again.
