A Call Out To The Local Goth Scene. An Interview With Lady Farin
The local goth scene has a new champion in Lady Farin.
A chilly October evening on the west side of Pensacola, at the newly rebranded SubCulture Arts Center (formerly known as Easy Going Gallery), Lady Farin, enthusiast and cheerleader for all things Goth began scurrying around the venue, preparing it for the inaugural, and her first foray into, a Goth Social Night, with accompanying vendors referred to affectionately as the Bizarre Bazaar.
We sat down with Lady Farin before the doors officially opened, and found someone who has plans. Lots of plans. And they all benefit the part of our scene that finds beauty in Victorian gowns, industrial music, the color black, and a morbid affection for the dark and sinister. Ok, that may be stereotyping a little bit, so to be clear, Lady Farin is here to enrich and shine a light on all things Goth.
"I'm looking to bring the goth community together." -Lady Farin
Lady Farin went to high school and college in Pensacola, but relocated to Denver for 10 years before returning last year. And tonight she is hosting her first local event, a Goth Social and Bizarre Bazaar.
Affectionately referring to her fellow goths as Baby Bats, Lady Farin mentions a resurgence in interest in Goth culture since the Netflix show Wednesday premiered. The recent Ballet Pensacola performance of Dracula also saw the scene emerge from the shadows to support Bram Stoker's dark epistolary tale of undying love.
Lady Farin, who is moonlighting tonight as DJ Dark Starlight has queued up tracks from the likes of Lords Of Acid, VNV Nation, Faderhead, Dance My Darling, Icon Of Coil and many more industrial and dark wave bangers.
But beyond tonights Goth Social, Lady Farin has many future events already in mind. A Goth Picnic, a Goth camping trip in the woods, trips to experience other Goth scenes including Denver's scene, Goth movie nights and more. The possibilities are endless based on what she feels the scene wants. And she's here to help make that happen, and help the local scene flourish.
Also in attendance tonight, as part of the evenings Bizarre Bazaar is local author J.M. Forth who's latest horror novel A Little More Human is available now, as well as her previous publications The Torturous Tome and Synonyms For Psychosis. Check her out at jmforthcom.wordpress.com
